Katrina Knowles, Zoning Administrator / Business License Official Zoning Department: The purpose of Zoning in Heard County is to establish minimum standards for the use of land and improvements within the county.
Areas of responsibility of the department are: · Interact with citizens, businesses, developers to assist with the understanding and implementation of the Heard County Zoning Ordinance. · Review various applications for compliance with Heard County Ordinances. · Prepare various reports, packages, and presentations for Planning Commission, of Commissioners and public review. · Communicate the appropriate process and review with all interested parties. · Acknowledge decision of appropriate Boards and insure records reflect accordingly.
Zoning Requests that may be filed are: All requests must be filed by the 15th of each month.
· Text Amendment – $250 · Zoning Map Amendment - $250 · Special Use Special & Special Use for Communication Tower- $250 · Variance - $250
All requests, except Variances, are reviewed by both the Heard County Planning Commission and the Heard County Board of Commissioners.

Business License Anyone doing any type of business in unincorporated Heard County which generates revenue is required to have a Business License. Licenses can only be obtained through the Zoning Department.
General Information Concerning License:
Building Department: The Building Department reviews all building applications for compliance and conducts inspections related to the proper construction and maintenance of buildings in Heard County. These inspections help insure public safety, health and general welfare by enforcing current codes in relation to building, fire prevention, grading, housing, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and swimming pools. The department also handles the county address system. General Information: · Building permits for site-built and manufactured / modular home is $0.30 per sq. ft. · Minimum size for dwelling is 1000 square feet. · All Building Application Packet is required to be completed before a permit is issued.
