Official Notice of New Legislation
Effective March 1, 2013, House Bill 386 removes the sales tax and the annual ad valorem tax on newly purchased vehicles; it replaces these taxes with a new title tax of 6.5% in 2013, 6.75% in 2014, and 7.0% in 2015.

Important Notice

ATTENTION HEARD COUNTY:
Heard County in partnership with the Georgia Department of Revenue will upgrade its Georgia DRIVES system :
Beginning Thursday December 30, 2021 at 7 pm, the Georgia Department of Revenue will begin a system upgrade to the state’s DRIVES system to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.
The upgrade will require vehicle registrations and titling services,including e-services and tag renewal kiosks, to be unavailable Thursday December 30, 2021 at 7 pm through Monday January 3, 2022. Vehicle owners with expiration dates late December and early January are encouraged to renew prior to December 30, 2021 at 7 pm to avoid delays.
What to expect during December 30 through January 3, 2021:
County Tag Offices and the Georgia Department of Revenue will be unable to process transactions. All online motor vehicle related services, including online tag renewal services will be unavailable. All motor vehicle self service Kiosks will be unavailable.
