Heard County Now Accepting Applications for Tag and Tax Clerk Position

JOB SUMMARY:
Heard County is seeking a detail oriented and customer focused Tag and Tax Clerk to support the daily operations of the Tax Commissioner’s Office. This position is responsible for assisting the public, processing tax and motor vehicle transactions, and maintaining accurate records for the county.

MAJOR DUTIES:
- Sells vehicle tags and processes title applications.
- Collects payments for ad valorem taxes on property, vehicles, timber, and mobile homes.
- Assists the public with researching property tax and motor vehicle information.
- Issues mobile home location permits.
- Balances daily collections and prepares bank deposits.
- Prepares daily activity and transaction reports.
- Enters payments and related data into computer systems accurately.
- Prepares, files, and maintains office correspondence and records.
- Researches tax data and provides general information to the public in person, by phone, and by email.
- Responds to taxpayer questions and concerns professionally and courteously.
- Processes incoming and outgoing mail for the office.
- Assists with maintaining inventory of tags, decals, forms, and office supplies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SALARY:
Salary is based on level of experience and qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass a background check and pre employment drug screen.
- Ability to comply with all county and department policies and work rules.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of bookkeeping principles and cash handling procedures.
- Knowledge of tax, tag, title, and exemption record keeping practices.
- Knowledge of state tag and title laws, motor vehicle registration requirements, and fee structures.
- Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations quickly and accurately.
- Skill in operating office equipment, including calculators, computers, and related software.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to work professionally with the public.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
